Note: I'm autistic so a lot of very common normal human experiences are alien to me. Including the phenomenon where people either ask for a particular trope or set up to "scratch an itch in their brain" or describe something as "scratching an itch in their brain/scratching their brain". I've never had a feeling like that. I've read books and thought "gee, that was amazing, I could use 13 more just like that" but "scratching an itch" is usually about a niched-down trope or aspect of the book/media, not the overall genre or plot.

    AnyHOW:

"Sweet Vitriol" on Severance gave me that sensation for what might be the first time ever in my life. Seeing people addicted to ether and the history of the town Salt's Neck which is now in decay made me really want more of the same, which I suspect there is very little or even nothing else like it. I summarize it as:

Obscure and densely symbolic old-timey subjects or objects used *naturally in a modern day timeline.*

Not twee "The Brothers Grimm" type stuff, not steampunk, not sci-fi, not retro-futurism (although I like retro-futurism).

Would love more of this 'trope'!
