I'm looking for a book or series for me to read to an 8 year old (me reading, not them). We've just finished reading The Hobbit which went down an absolute storm except for a little bit of sadness at the death of Thorin lol, but we managed that ok.
I've never been much of a reader myself and I'm stuck on what could come next, seems like a tough one to follow on from.
It doesn't have to be fantasy setting or similar in style necessarily, just something that's enjoyable for all ages.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

John Flanagan,
Brandon Sanderson’s “Alcatraz Vs the Evil Librarians” was a lot of fun, read all six to my son when he was about that age.
chronicles of narnia, redwall, where the red fern grows…
*The Enchanted Forest Chronicles*. Funny mixed-up fairy tales with alternating female and male protagonists over the four books.
*The Chronicles of Prydain*. Assistant pig-keeper of an oracular pig goes on an adventure.
*Dinotopia*. Boy and his father are shipwrecked on an island where dinosaurs and humans coexist. The books are written like the father’s naturalist notebooks.
The *Dark is Rising* sequence. Boy discovers he has magical powers that he has to hide from his loving family. Darker vibes than Harry Potter.
*The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making*. A more modern *Alice in Wonderland*-style adventure.
The Last Unicorn
The Secret Garden
The Diamond in the Window
Charlotte’s Web
Not a series but a great book-
The Little Prince
Also Jules Verne
Around the World in 80 days
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Obviously
Harry Potter
