    Hello, everyone.

English is not my mother tongue but I do want to start reading books in their original language someday (tolkien, dune, philip k dick, and so on).

One book I would like to read is The Pillars of the Earth. Is it difficult for a non-native?

What other books can you suggest me? I like science-fiction, adventure, medieval, western type of books.

    Thank you!

    1. I think Ken Follett is a great place to start reading in English, he’s a got a very clean and clear prose. Pillars of the Earth is as good a start as any, it’s one of his best. That said if you’ve got trouble with the occasional medieval terms, you may went to give his “Century” trilogy a try (Fall of Giants, Winter of the World, Edge of Eternity). Being set in the XXth century, it feels a little more familiar.

For science fiction, it depends on what you’re looking for. Asimov is “old” science fiction so it feels a little antiquated but it’s very easy to read and has set the standard for science fiction in general. In modern sci-fi, The Expanse is a pretty fun read without being overly complex. After that you should be pretty well set-up for Dune and Philip K. Dick.
