I love Stephen Graham Jones books! He has a lot of stand-alones that are nice!

The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson is excellent, and was an influence on Lovecraft.

There’s a fabulous vampire collection called Vintage Vampire Stories. Good introduction to older vampire stories.

My favorite current publishing authors are Rachel Harrison, Grady Hendrix, and Jennifer McMahon. /r/horrorlit keeps my tbr list growing.

It’s fun to go through the Bram Stoker Award nominees. I’m going through the 2024 list now and really enjoying it, adored The Haunting of Velkwood. https://www.thebramstokerawards.com/front-page/the-2024-bram-stoker-awards-final-ballot/

I have loved books by Victor LaValle (Lone Women) and Gabino Iglesias (The Devil Takes You Home). Check out both of those authors.

    5. Shirley Jackson short stories, any collection. Robert Aickman short stories, any collection.

Clive Barker is pretty good. Sort of urban fantasy crossed with gore and sexual ambiguity.

ETA: also HP Lovecraft. Pretty big deal in literary horror.

    7. Darcy Coates is worth checking out – I enjoyed *Dead of Winter* and *From Below* by her

Peter Straub’s Ghost Story, and anything else by him. Richard Chizmar’s Boogeyman series is good, Dean Koontz writes great horror/thriller novels, Anything by Bentley Little.
