Hey. 🙂
I am looking for recommendations on fictional works that incorporate multiple layers of surveillance.
An example would be Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Here, it is not only Gilead as the dystopian state that monitors its citizens through several measures and people, but the handmaids themselves are also taught to spy on each other on an interpersonal level. What I enjoyed the most about this example was that the several layers of surveillance were introduced rather subtly in a way. So, at least for me, only in the course of the book did I truly realize the magnitude of these combined instances. Are there any similar books in which surveillance occurs in different forms throughout the story? The novels do not have to be dystopian, btw.
Thanks for the recommendations in advance. 🙂
