My brother's birthday is coming up and he really likes dark and/or exciting historical fiction, preferably from non-Western countries or centering the experiences of minorities within those countries. He's not a fan of magical realism. He also likes learning about events he was unfamiliar with and loves when the author clearly did a lot of research into the situation.
I'm running out of ideas. He's loved:
Sing, Unburied, Sing
The North Woods
The North Water
Washington Black
Jubilee
Betty
He also used to like dark classics, like Journey to the End of The Night.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
