Just finished this for book club and since I don't have book club for a week I figured I'd ask if anyone has read it and what you thought?

For me…I'm really on the fence. It did its just in that it made me uncomfortable.

Our protagonist has me confused though. While she's clearly not in a great place mentally, I felt like I was supposed to root for her but I really didn't like her at all.

Obviously The Man was just vile. Predatory. Creepy. All the y's. But so was she?

And the ending! I don't know if I hated it because it stopped abruptly or I liked that because it was more realistic?

I hope at someone someone else has read it, otherwise this is all for naught!

    1. I read it for a bookclub and absolutely hated it, most of the club did apart from 2 people. One lady who did like it had read it twice and she said on the second read you understood so much more and it’s a wonderful book… but I wasn’t going to put myself through 60 pages of being a leaf again to see if I had the same experience so can’t corroborate that 😂

    2. I didn’t get the feeling like we were supposed to root for her. I personally enjoyed the book, but I tend to enjoy a lot of books where the main characters are unlikeable/bad people.

    3. Ironic that it’s called “I’m a fan” because I in fact am not a fan at all 😂

I get the vibe of the book but it really just came off as negative and icky to me. Nothing particularly ground breaking for me with the story line, little to no redeeming qualities in the characters, and this kind of “commentary” on parasocial relationships is not a way which I feel towards life in general. Again it just came off as SO negative and even bland.

    4. I see this is an old post but I’m in the middle of the book for the second time and I’m struggling to finish. I’m a writer and I don’t need likeable characters or a plot or anything to judge a book by apart from how well it is crafted but I just dine understand the praise for this at all. Obviously it’s very well written but it’s way too mfa for my taste.
