Looking for a book series with good characters

I'm looking for characters I can care about, good story and we'll written dialogues. I don't mind any genre, but if it's fiction or fantasy I don't want a super intricate world (I tried Steven Erikson books and failed miserably)
In another time I would have happily be immersed in a complex world like that, but currently I just want to read more about human relationships (not necessarily romantic).
I just read Lonesome Dove, and I think that's a good example of what I'm looking.
I just want something to forget my life to be honest.
