For me, it was The handmaid‘s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Don’t get me wrong, I respect the book. The pros are absolutely outstanding and I get what Atwood was trying to do. She was trying to put us inside the mind of the isolated protagonist. But God, it just droned on and on and on. I just kept waiting and waiting for the plot to build up, but I was just left like WTF? Where is the freaking climax?? I watched the entire series and could not wait to read the book. i’m blind, so I listen to audiobooks. The app I use is Libby. There was like a 10 week waiting list for the book and I held out that entire time, thinking it was going to be this magnificent read. But I literally could not bring myself to finish it. And from what I’ve heard, I’m glad I didn’t. Because the way it ends would have just pissed me plumb off. Lol. So what are some books that you guys were super stoked about reading, but ultimately left you disappointed and lost your interest before you could finish it?
Edit: for those of you who are wondering how I watched the series, since I mentioned above that I’m blind, Netflix and Hulu have this amazing feature known as audio description. It basically turns movies and TV shows into an audiobook by having someone in the background narrating what’s going on on screen while the actors aren’t talking. Just thought I would throw that out there because I figured someone would ask lol

Funny story because of all the Emily Henry hype and I’ve been stuck on the same page for like 5 months
11/22/63. I found it so boring and not worth it because the ending was rushed and not well thought out. Very sweet ending but poorly executed. It’s a shame because I love time travel stories but this one was way too long or just chose to focus on some extremely boring parts.
That is so funny, because mine is another Atwood book – The Heart Goes Last. I’ve been an Atwood fan since college and have read everything she’s done and definitely have my favorites, but The Heart Goes Last was terrible!

Rouge by Mona Awad
On its face it seemed like the perfect book for me. But I got a third of the way in and it just felt sooo repetitive. I was dying for something to *happen*. I believe Awad was still building the mystery at this point in the book and I was too impatient to reach a pay off but I couldn’t go on. I felt like I could spend my time reading a book that fully grabbed me and sucked me in, rather than force myself to finish the chore I held in front of me.
However, since putting the book down in January I’ve started to miss the protagonist and I wonder what’s happened to her so I’ll probably go back to it and pick up where I left off. Maybe I just need to digest it in small doses.
I plowed my way through the first 3 books of the Red Rising trilogy. I started the 4th book about a month ago and just now hit the halfway point. It’s just boring compared to the rest
