Looking for a book recommended to me in rehab long ago

Long story short, i went to rehab with this dude who read like a lot. Him and I would make references to 1993s jurrasic park references. At the time I didn't know the film was based an actual book. I always loved Jeff Goldbloom's character Ian Malcom. He recommend to me that there is a book similar to the writing of Michael Crichton about chaos theory but I for the life of me cannot remeber what it is called. So guess I'll just start fresh, anyone got any recommendations?
