I have read Harry Potter. I won't say I hated them but I found them okay.
I tried getting into various popular YA Fantasy but just couldn't get into it.
I'm into historical fiction & detective novels (big fan of Bernard Cornwell & Agatha Christie).
But I want to expand my genre.
So can anyone please suggest a Fantasy novel.
I would prefer if the characters in the novel are adults.
Thank you.

When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill
Check out the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. Magic realism, great adult characters, a lot of fun. The audiobooks are fantastic if you prefer to listen.
The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins also gets recommended a lot. It was weird in such a great way. One of my favorite recent reads.
Discworld is aesthetically fantasy but narratively sci-fi.
If you like historical fiction, mysteries, and are looking for fantasy that appeals to a non-fantasy reader, I really gotta go with *A Game of Thrones.*
Book 1 is basically a political thriller with a mystery plotline, set in a world heavily inspired by historical fiction, with fantasy elements thrown in. The reason it almost singlehandedly redefined the genre of fantasy is because it changed the formula quite a bit.
THE FIRST LAW TRILOGY
i typed that in all caps cuz those books are AWESOME
Chris Evans Iron Elves,
The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is pretty good. If you really like it, there are 15+ books.
*The Spear Cuts Through Water* Very folk-tale-esque to tickle your love of history. No mystery. Just rhe best book ever written. The prose is amazing. Everything about it is amazing
