I’m looking for a book to gift someone who meant a lot to me. We were never officially together, but we shared something deep. She told me she loved me, that we were exclusive, but then left without a word. I made mistakes too—we both did.

She’s independent, avoids emotional vulnerability, and keeps her feelings guarded. I still love her, maybe more for the idea of her than the reality. I want a book that lingers—something about longing, missed chances, self-discovery. Nothing too sappy, just meaningful.

I was considering South of the Border, West of the Sun by Murakami, Spring Turrents by Turgenev or anything in the direction of White Nights by Dostoyesky. Any other recommendations?
