    Hi there!

It’s my brother’s birthday coming up, one of his favourite books is ‘the song of Achilles’. I’ve tried to look for a book similar but I’m not too sure what to go for. He’s read what feels like every book, so trying to buy one he doesn’t own is something I’m finding difficult. Is there any niche books you’ve read or a book that’s come out in the last year you think is really good but didn’t get enough recognition? He’s a massive book fan and will truly read any genre.

    Thank you in advance

    1. if he liked the sort of books inspired by myth and religion, i cannot sing the praises of Birds of Paradise by Oliver K. Langmead enough. it did come out in 2021 but really did not get a lot of attention, and it really deserves it. it uses the story of Adam and Eve as inspiration and is set in the modern day, following Adam as he searches for the plants of paradise (with the help of the creatures of paradise). it is a beautifully written and gut wrenching story that i was unable to put down until i finished

The Orphan Master’s Son is my all-time favorite and didn’t get the hype it should have.

In Persuasion Nation by George Saunders is awesome. It’s a series of short stories (some of which were published in The New Yorker). I got it for my brother who is also a huge reader and seems to have read everything.

    3. The Witch King by H.E. Edgmon is a well-written and addictive fantasy with some similiar vibes to the Song of Achilles (but more contemporary) definitely a book that doesn’t get enough attention
