As research for a short story I'm writing, I'd like to find at least 1 or 2 novels with similar themes as what I'm striving for in my own work.
The main characters are queer in a period where their mere existence is taboo, and while one ends up a political prisoner, the other becomes a revolutionary fighting for equal rights and liberation for the citizens of their country.
I'm aware there is definitely not a lot of queer literature set in this time, but I'm also hoping to include a lot of poetic prose, as it's formatted as a memoir from the MC (a young poet) to his lover. So any romantic / poetic historical fiction will do, if it encapsulates the suffering and oppression minorities had to go through during that time.
