This may seem overly specific, but I’m looking for books involving some soldier, explorer, or other person on some kind of expedition or mission. The person has some extraordinary encounter or experience and writes an after action/incident report about it. This report fundamentally changes some understanding in the scientific or historical community (or philosophical community, I suppose.) Ideally the story would be partially or entirely focused on the impact of the report and the people whom it impacts, rather than only on the event the report is about.
I’ve been replaying Mass Effect, and for those who are familiar with it, I want a book like or about The Leviathan Codex (not the DLC Leviathan missions, but the report Shepard submits at the end that we never get to read).
