Currently going through a depressive episode, would like to read some books (nothing too long) that don't necessarily make people happy but can distract you from everything else at the very least. I'm usually into fantasy and sci-fi but other genres like literary fiction is all right. Non-fiction and self-help is fine too, just nothing very religious.

The Hobbit!!
My GF is going to a pretty bad depression episode and she has seemed lighter since she stated the hobbit
It’s longer but makes for a fast read, but I really enjoyed The Princess Bride by William Golden.
The Door-to-Door Bookstore by Carsten Henn
Also, I find Japanese fiction very soothing. If you haven’t tried any before, I’d recommend (but these are not sci-fi or fantasy):
We’ll Prescribe You a Cat
Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-Reum
Anxious People by Fredrik Backman
Janet Kagan’s Mirabile is a delightful science fiction story set on a planet settelized by earthlings from generational ships who are trying to not only learn the local flora and fauna but also the flora and fauna they brought with them. Good characters and great story telling.
The House in the Cerulean Sea 💙feel better soon, friend
