Going on a trip and looking for some books to download on my Kobo! I've gotten really into haunted house/gothic thriller books in the past few years. Here's some I've read that I loved:
- How to Sell a Haunted House (Grady Hendrix)
- The September House (Carissa Orlando)
- Diavola (Jennifer Marie Thorne)
- What Moves the Dead (T. Kingfisher)
- The Hacienda (Isabel Cañas)
- Mexican Gothic (Silvia Moreno-Garcia)
Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in then Castle, as well as of course the Haunting of Hill House.
Perfection.
Check out The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. Its about this creepy motel in upstate NY and follows two timelines – one in the 80s and one present day. Not too scary but definitely spooky vibes. Also The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix since you liked his other book. Both are pretty quick reads that’ll keep you hooked.
Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas is also good! Also A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
Either Spookshow or Welcome to the Spookshow by Tim McGregor — but I loved the whole series!
The Shining by Stephen King
The Talisman by Stehpehn King and Peter Straub
Lockwood & Co by Jonathan Stroud is great, more for teens/middle school but I love those books too!
