Its super fun. It’s like The Expendables meets DnD.
Fair warning – it’s the first book in a series of three and the third book has yet to be finished. It 100% works as a standalone though.

There are lots of different types of fantasy books.
The Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson is a good place for beginners.
The FirstLaw trilogy by Joe Abercrombie is darker and harsher (grimdark fantasy)
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree is gentler and warmer (cozy fantasy)
