fiction based books on irl gritty/controversial topics for young adults

i’m not really sure what the genre i’m looking for quite is. i like books that are fiction based on real life topics about modern issues (race, police, sexuality, wars/army, etc)

i’m mostly thinking of books such as caucasia, blue is the warmest color, the hate u give, and classics like to kill a mockingbird

if anyone has suggestions or knows what this genre is called, please tell me! it feels weird to call it historical fiction but i guess that’s right
