Hello!
I'm a chronic binge reader, but I'm wanting to branch out! I mostly read horror, thrillers, YA I didn't get to read growing up, and non-fiction. (mostly science)
I really want to get into the fantasy genre, but don't know where to start! I read the first 3 GoT books last year, and I loved the spooky elements alongside the 'throne and court' that I envision fantasy to be. I also loved The Book of Koli trilogy. (Is this counted as fantasy?)
I think fantasy books like LotR would be too hard to really pull me in, so I'm wanting some suggestions of magical based fantasy! I don't really want any romance based books.
I'm honestly not sure what I'm specifically looking for, so give me your best recommendation for lighter fantasy for a newbie!

The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy by Will Wight. Magic is used by calling energy and creatures from other worlds called territories. People who can draw from their territories are called travelers. The first book in the series is House of Blades.
The 13th Paladin series by Torsten Weitze. The 13th Paladin of the Gods has been sent to fight the dark god “He Who Forces”.

Lord of the mysteries. The first book is fairly slow but it is PEAK trust me
I love to recommend Lois McMaster Bujold’s series The Curse of Chalion and The Paladin of Souls. Her world-building is wonderful, her characters are wonderful, and she has a gift for emotional hooks. An unforgettable series.
