Looking for novels where the protagonist is a male, 25 years or older, but the story isn’t just about him. I want a well-balanced narrative where other characters are equally developed and crucial to the plot.
Most importantly, the story should have a larger-than-life conflict—something grand, intense, and gripping. Whether it’s a high-stakes crime, a mind-bending sci-fi dilemma, an epic fantasy struggle, or a pulse-pounding thriller, I want the kind of story that feels big and impactful.

American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road. It’s nonfiction, but it fits exactly what you’re looking for. Ross fits your main character, and there are other people (both his lieutenants and the agents investigating him) that are crucial to the story.
The development of each of these people is rather interesting to read.
There is excessive idealism, the need to prove one’s self, and corruption.
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold
Epic fantasy stakes, a truly fascinating exploration of an invented religion, historical resonances, a little sprinkle of romance, believable antagonists, deep characterization, and a mature main character who has already (he thinks) lost everything.
Can’t recommend this highly enough.
