I’ve watched House of the Dragon and really enjoyed it, which got me interested in exploring asoiaf. I haven’t watched Game of Thrones yet, but I’ve known about it ever since it first came out. Given the mixed reactions to the later seasons, I’m wondering if it’s still worth reading, What do you think?

The books are superb if you accept that the series will likely never reach a conclusion.
I loved the books up until the most recent (hahaha) because I felt like the whole tone shifted and it read like he was writing an HBO show. And, of course, it’s unfinished so I personally don’t recommend signing up for that
I wish I could erase my memory of the series to reread it. Absolutely worth it.
**Game of Thrones** is one of my favourite books of all time.
I think it’s absolutely worth it, especially if you’ve never seen the series.
The characters, story and world building are all brilliant. Some fantasy series manage to do 1/2 of these things really well but Game of Thrones is the rare book that does everything well IMO.
It will probably never be finished but given people’s dissatisfaction with how the tv series ended (based on GRRM’s notes) maybe that’s okay. History never finishes either, and we manage okay.
You can read 1-3 and it kinda feels like a completed trilogy with some certain loose threads and then read the final two books like they are a sort of expanded lore.
I thought it was entertaining. The books are entirely too long. Martin needed a better editor. I made it through the first three. Good story, overabundant descriptions.
Yes it is. Unfinished and still the best series I’ve ever read.
I am by far in the minority, but I did not like the books and didn’t get very far. I thought the first couple seasons of the show were much better (and I’m usually a book person.) I was not at all surprised when the books stalled out and at the difficulty in bringing them to a conclusion. But, like I said, I’m in the minority.
I loved the show when it came out, so I read the books after having seen the show, and while I enjoyed the first three books quite a bit, the fourth and fifth are meandering, and basically nothing progressing the end plot happens in them.
I was shocked and disappointed when I realized just how little of the actual show had even been fleshed out by the books and to accept the fact that the series is just done, unfinished, really bummed me out and made me lose motivation to read.
Song of Ice and fire is really good, it’s not finished and probably won’t be, that said it is very good.
Too many names for me, even in the series, I often had to check the genealogy to remember who was related to who. But the book was really hard to read, I never finished it.
The books are really amazing but I would never recommend them to anyone because the author is never gonna finish them and the show that you could watch as a consolation ending is utter shit. Especially the ending.
If you liked House of Dragons you’ll love GoT.
