My ESL students (adult, intermediate level) have been asking for reading material to read on their own outside of class. I don’t want this to feel like homework; I want it to be fun and engaging but not too hard.
I’m looking for books with lots of realistic, conversational language. I think the contemporary genre is perfect for this, as opposed to denser magistral like literary fiction, horror, nonfiction, etc.
I read a lot of books, but most of them are pretty girly (Taylor Jenkins Reid, Sally Rooney, Ottessa Moshfeigh). Most of my students are men, though, so I am looking for different books that might interest them more.
