I need suggestions for books that explain the most important and famous political regimes in the world (like Genghis Khan's, communism in China or one party state in the middle East) in a simple way.
Apologies innadvance if I have written something wrong or incorrect. I have absolutely no knowledge about this area & that's why I am looking for books that would explain the most famous historical regimes to me in a simple way.
TIA.

Braudel’s A History of Civilizations.
“THe Republic of False Truths” – [Fiction] – Alaa as-Aswany. Its a fictionalised account about the short lived Egyptian revolution of 2011.
“I Must Betray You” – [Fiction/Crime Fiction] – Ruta Sepetys. A contemporary novel, but set in late 1989. Really educational about what it was like to grow up during the fall of Communism in Romania.
“Free” – [Non-fiction/Autobiography] – Lea Ypi. She grew up at the end of Communism in Albania
