So my wife and I have been reading the Harry Potter and Petcy Jackson books to our 8 & 9 year olds. They love books, both can read at MUCH higher levels and they are loving these two series. I'd like to work in a third book series into the rotation along the some line.

Something middle grade or light YA; something fantastic (especially if it's sci-fi or another genre from the first two); something with a school/camp/other formative organization so it's something they can relate to; a series following the same group of characters growing up together; and preferably something with a female protagonist or a brother/sister split protagonist.

I'll admit that seems like a narrow window, and I'm having some difficult finding something close enough. Any suggestions? I will note my kids can read far higher but that does not mean their maturity is far higher so I'm leery if YA series that lean into mature themes. (That said I have separately been reading them the Leviathan Trilogy and The Belgariad which they have both been enjoying. I just censor anything that goes too far.)
