It's just so hard to find fantasy books with no or next to none romance (I don't mind it with side chracters), especially when the mc is a woman. Please help me out of this reading slump I have dug myself in 😣
The Fifth Season, book one of the Broken Earth trilogy. It’s excellent and has very little traditional romance.

What do you mean by romance? Is unfulfilled horniness ok? Sexual tension? Non-steamy depiction of falling in love? Do you want her essentially asexual?

The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi, it’s technically a pirate book but with fantasy elements. Only romance is mentioned old lovers but no active love story.

The Paksenarrion books by Elizabeth Moon.

Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett. If you like it, the rest of the Discworld witches books are also low to no romance.

I never finished the book bc i hated it, but The Poppy War has a MC who is pretty anti romance.

I just read an ARC of a book that came out this week through Netgalley. Really cool book with an awesome magic system. One of the two MC is a female and there’s no romance at all.
Definitely worth checking out. It’s called The Source of Strife.

Kindred by Octavia Butler. The MC is a married woman but the relationship with her husband isn’t the main focus of the story at all.
