The title, basically. I think I used to have the wrong impression of Pat Conroy, that he was somehow melodramatic and light. My wife said he was an amazing writer, dark as anything, and grand in scope. I'm in. I'm leaning to The Great Santini, but then I remembered about the Lords of Discipline (which has always struck me as a top ten title), and I've also heard Prince of Tides is devastating. I don't think I can go wrong, but want to hear from his fans!

I liked The Prince of Tides and Beach Music.
Prince of Tides is one of my favorite books ever. So I was disappointed to not enjoy Beach Music. I found it too melodramatic. But tbh, I’d try anything Pat Conroy writes – he’s a master of prose. If I find something doesn’t click for me, on to the next.
