The Giver is my favorite book of all time, but it's only recently that I gave the other books after it in the series a go. The Giver is just a beautiful book and I love the world it creates and how it handles tone and setting. The other books in the series are shaping up to be just as good, but I'll be done with them soon and I really want to find other books that give the same sort of feel.
In general, I'd like something fiction but based in modern/contemporary times. Part of why I love the Giver is because the environment is so familiar to the real world but is also starkly different. I don't typically enjoy stories about knights and kings and dragons, but I do love fantasy and magic when it's brought into the "real" world and used to contrast what we know with something fantastical and amazing.
The Giver quartet is young adult fiction, I think. Recommendations don't have to be young adult, but I think typically that genre tends to be where I find the stories I like. I've read Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Gregor the Overlander already, which are all good examples of other sorts of books that give me a similar enjoyment as The Giver.
I'm sorry if my post was long-winded or hard to follow, I just love these books and want to find more like them! Thank you in advance for any good recommendations!
