Hi there, with the recent demise of the US and relatedly, my husband's faith deconstruction that has triggered my own, I am looking for role models. Supremely moral people – not necessarily perfect people, but people who lived inspiring lives that very likely made the world better for others.
I've started reading "Long Walk to Freedom", Nelson Mandela's autobiography. What other nonfiction works have you read about the lives of others you found to be moral role models?
I am especially eager to learn about people who engage in grassroots activism for the environment, animals, or for people who have been marginalized/oppressed.

Melvin Urofsky’s biography of Louis Brandeis was awesome, I thought. Brought the time to life in a way I’ve never experienced before. And Brandeis was a very idealistic guy, who worked hard for “the little guy.” He was a Republican, and wealthy, but he felt it was deeply important to make other people’s lives better. I thought it was pretty inspiring.
