2025 is my year of planning ahead, so I need to get some holds in at the library before I run through my current TBR (and for upcoming publications). Last year I hit the mark with a great mix of classics, non-fiction, and recent literary fiction, and I’d like to keep that going. Non-fiction and classics I have covered, looking for 2025 literary fiction release recommendations! They don’t have to be out already — I haven’t found a good place to scope new releases.
Preferably nothing focusing on motherhood or dead fathers.
Here are a few of my favorites released last year:
- “Martyr!” by Kaveh Akbar
- “Orbital” by Samantha Harvey
- “Rejection” by Tony Tulathimutte
- “Beautyland” by Marie-Helene Bertino
- “God of the Woods” by Liz Moore
- “James” by Percival Everett
Here’s what I’ve already read this year:
- “Gliff” by Ali Smith (loved)
- “Stone Yard Devotional” by Charlotte Wood (loved)
- “The Antidote” by Karen Russell (in progress, love so far and loved Swamplandia)
Thank you in advance, wonderful people.

Commenting to stay on this thread! These are also some of my favorite reads! Especially Martyr! And God of the Woods and Beautyland!!!
You might enjoy Charlotte McConaghy. She’s released 3 books recently with Wild Dark Shore being her latest. I’ve loved all three!
