I thought the beginning chapter was very funny and turned very sinister very quickly to the extent my hands were literally shaking while I was reading it- I found it so distressing I was on the verge of throwing up, in favour of the work, very few pieces of writing have affected me viscerally
Then he emulates James Joyce and Dostoyevsky stream of consciousness we're given to understand by the omissions of full stops, the sentences are given form by capitalising the letters,
The attempt to give psychological vitality to the characters is kind of- meh,
So far it's not great, just wondering how you found it

Lowkey wanna read it now because of this description
Well I won’t be reading it after that description! 😕
I gave up. The writing style was…impossible. I wasn’t wasting any more time on it.
I thought it was incredible. Murray does a great job writing in different voices, and with each character’s POV you discover a little more about the events at the center of everything. It almost reads like a mystery.
I DNFd after 30% it just went on and on without much happening
I thought it was absolutely incredible. The despair from each member of the family for all different reasons, the totally normal, human feelings.
It’s a fantastic book. The ending is.. a lot.
I haven’t read The Bee Sting, but I did read Skippy Dies and was not prepared for how different the content of the book was from its premise (a teenager dies during a donut eating contest and the book explains the events leading up to his death). I was expecting a dark comedy, and it was a lot darker than I expected. I did really like it though. Was The Bee Sting similar?
Ok but get to the end and report back!
Thought the end was great.
I DNF’d about 50% of the way through. And I made it that far bc I read so many great reviews and wanted so badly to get it. If anyone would like to share the big ending I missed out on, I’m all ears!
