I'm looking for fantasy/science fiction book recommendations that involve a protagonist who undergoes a lot of training to become a better fighter etc. It can involve magic but it doesn't have to. I really like books that slowly outline the training and development of the character so you can see them become more powerful over time.
Examples of books I really like include: The Kingkiller Chronicle series, codex alera series, lightbringer series, stormlight archieve series, raven's shadow series, the faithful and fallen series, red rising saga series, the rage of dragons (the burning series), etc

*The Blue Sword* by Robin McKinley – the protagonist’s training is the bulk of the novel
The Wheel of Time series has a lot of characters who spend significant time training in their various abilities.
The Warded Man series by Peter V. Brett was awesome. Spartan like training for both men and women lots of combat and was my favorite series last summer. I hope it’s a movie or series one day.
Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh
The Cradle series by Will Wight is exactly this. It’s precisely what you’re looking for and extremely good. The first book is the slowest but still interesting, and after that it EXPLODES
Also search around for the genre “progression fantasy” if you want more of this kind of thing.
