Looking for kind of gross and engaging books like Captain Underpants.
My son who is 6 is an avid reader. He’s blown through cat kid, dog man, captain underpants and diary of a wimpy kid all within the last 3 months.
What’s next?
I hope you find some great reads! A couple suggestions:
Enginerds / Geeger the Farting Robot by Jarrett Lerner
Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell
Bird and Squirrel by James Burkes
You might also see if your library offers access to Novelist k-8, a database that provides “read-alikes” for titles a reader has enjoyed.
Here are a few Author Read-Alikes for Captain Underpants (authors who write in a similar style):
*Hale, Bruce* **Reason:** Older kids who like funny series will enjoy books by both Bruce Hale and Dav Pilkey. Each author writes graphic novel/chapter book hybrids that feature wacky characters and bathroom humor. — Kathy Stewart
*Walliams, David, 1971-* **Reason:** Utter irreverence toward adults and plenty of gross-out humor make both David Walliams and Dav Pilkey’s books extremely popular with kids. Pilkey uses complex metanarratives that play with the graphic novel format; Walliams depends on outrageous situations recounted in illustrated text. Both authors introduce sophisticated comedy concepts to young readers. — Autumn Winters
