She's been really into reading lately, but she's honestly a die hard romantic. My mom and I have been trying to find good books for her, to show her that good books can be a lot of fun to read. She's seen us read Fourth wing, Sarah J Maas, and a handful of other popular artists. The thing is, we really don't want to give her books with smut in them. She's intimidated by Harry Potter, and she says Diary of a wimpy kid isn't as fun anymore. She's progressing fast, and my mom and I really want to instill a love for books with her(since she used to struggle really bad). She wants romance, in a fantasy world. She honestly couldn't care less if prince charming(the love interest) came riding a white or a fire breathing dragon. She just cares if he falls in love with her and acts like the perfect man.

Book recommendations are much appreciated.(while I was writing this, she's stressing to make it VERY clear she wants it to be for 'big kids' – but for her, that just means the words challenge her a bit. Books recommended for 8-14 are the goal, by her standards.)

*The Enchanted Forest Chronicles*? The first is about a princess who runs away to work for a dragon. The protagonist in the second is a king who goes on an adventure.>!They fall in love and marry.!<

      Ella Enchanted,
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,
      The Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

I would just take her to the kids or young adult section of Barnes and Noble.

City of Beasts by Isabel Allende is a really interesting one! I was gifted it when I was 10 by a family friend who was a head teacher.

A young boy’s mum is sick, and he’s lonely so his Grandmother, a journalist/ adventurer takes him on an expedition to the Amazon to try and find a magical cure. He travels with tribes people and there’s a little super wholesome romance.

It’s also a good one for body positivity, because he has to come to terms with being naked with the tribes folk and see all kinds of bodies, described in a very respectful and understanding way. It’s a real coming of age story that touches on puberty, adulthood and coping with challenging emotions.

Your sister is ripe for the Anne of Green Gables series. Totally different from fantasy, somewhat historical, set in Canada, a young girl comes to her own as an adopted orphan. She matures into a young woman who finds her life calling, and eventually love that was there all along.

These are classic novels every young girl should read.

Enders Game was my favorite book for a while when I was her age.

She may enjoy the Redwall Series. It’s about fantasy animals, and there are some romantic but very chaste subplots involved.

    7. The **Song of the Lioness** series, beginning with **Alanna** by Tamora Pierce.

This is the perfect pick- it is exactly for her age, has a strong romantic story arc. Includes themes of hiding as a knight, getting her first period, first love- it has it all, but it’s specifically for younger teens. It’s perfect for this. All the ‘romance’ scenes are kissing and fade to black.
