Lately I've really been enjoying a lot of what I didn't until recently realize was a trend of stories (I say stories because in addition to books, the trend also includes several musicals) of stories about people in the early years of the 20th century, or a similar vibe, dealing with mostly very low stakes problems (mostly) about society or relationships or what have you. They're always funny and light and goofy and usually rag on the characters a lot for being kinda dumb. A list of examples that I've been enjoying recently:
Books:
The Poirot novels by Agatha Christie
The novels of Diana Wynne Jones such as the Howl and Chrestomancy series (Her novels obviously aren't exactly meeting the brief in terms of setting but the VIBE is right)
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Musicals:
A Little Night Music
She Loves Me
A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder
I really enjoy the vibes of these stories, and I know it's a fairly common vibe so I'm sure there's plenty more out there! I just want more that's fun and light and slightly irreverent with a nice happy ending. Times are hard and I feel like I deserve it. Help me out please and thank you!!
