I don't mean a tearjerker exactly! I'm not interested in something that's just very sad. I mean something that shocks and horrifies me in a tragic kind of way.

I just read the novella "Nothing But The Rain" by Naomi Salman. My god, that ending was bleak. I felt real, physical pain in my chest and now I'm craving more. More pain please!

I generally only read books written by women with female protagonists, but I'm willing to read about men if you sell me on it!

Fall On Your Knees. Most of the characters are female. It has disturbed me for years and had to reread the ending the first time I read it because I couldn’t figure out my own mind, like what the HELL?!
