We're planning to travel to Scotland and hike and walk a lot. We're mostly going to visit the Scottish Highlands, a little more the countryside, not too much the big cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow, so I'm not too interested in Trainspotting or Shuggie Bain. Can you suggest me a novel or poetry book to accompany me during this journey in this beautiful country

Nigel Tranter’s books are great, both his non-fiction and historical fiction
Nan Shepherd, *The Living Mountain*.
– “Corrag” by Susan Fletcher (historical),
-“The Crow Road” by Iain Banks (thriller),
– “Hamish Macbeth” series (murder mystery)
The Outrun by Amy Liptrot
The Lost Lights of St Kilda by Elisabeth Gifford
Sea Room by Adam Nicholson
Consider the Lilies
For something lighter that captures the beauty of the Highlands, especially the islands to the west, try Jenny Colgans’ The Cafe by the Sea.
Also, watch Local Hero!
