Symphony for the City of the Dead by M.T. Anderson- the true story of Shostakovich’s Leningrad symphony. Part war/political thriller, part solid description of the struggles of artistic creativity during the Soviet Realism ‘movement’.

I thought nothing could outdo Apollo 13 for most bonkers real life adventure story, then I read Endurance by Lansing. I’d heard many good things. I indeed found the first half fascinating and was recommending it to everyone.
But then things got so ridiculous I would not believe it but for all the incredible documentation. I had to take breaks to pace around frenetically, just reading what was going on, and knowing it all turned out relatively ok.

“Say Nothing”. It’s about The Troubles and is riveting. Also turned into a great mini series by Hulu.
