Hello all! Me and my friends wanted to get into reading this year, and we wanted to read something that was fun for both guys and girls! Though, we are all beginners, so we don't have any knowledge of books that are out that would be good for us!
Some things that we like in a book would be themes of suspense, thriller, plot twists, drama, romance, fantasy, dystopia, murder mystery, great world building, character development.
Not all of these have to be in one book, but these are just elements that we like!
Huge bonus if the book has a pair of star crossed lovers, as one of the readers love that trope haha
We would honestly just love a book that is exciting to read each week and that would create fun discussions and theorizing sessions!
thank you so much! we really are eager to start our journey on reading

The Ibis trilogy by Amitav Ghosh has everything you mentioned in my opinion.
The Fifth Season by NK Jemisin or Circe by Madeline Miller might be fun ones! Both books are excellent and were big hits in our book club.
I run a book club with some friends, and we are a mix of guys and girls. Here are some we have liked, and some I think you may like:
* Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty. A murder mystery in space.
* Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Very much love-it-or-hate-it.
* I second the recommendation of The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. We had a great, thought provoking discussion after reading this one.
* We also read Circe by Madeline Miller, but had mixed feelings about it overall.
* The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. A great sci fi classic.
* Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. A very popular, well-liked book
* Babel by R. F. Kuang. We had some great discussions after this one, even though some members didn’t like it.
* The Galaxy and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers. This is technically fourth in a series, but it worked as a stand alone. You could also start with the first book, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, which has some romance.
* The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge. I read this years ago and keep trying to get my book club to read it, but as of yet we’ve picked different books!
* Red Rising by Pierce Brown. Dystopia, character development, plot twists, and romance.
* Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
* I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
Seconding Fifth Season (one of my favorites!), Hunger Games might also be fun if you’re all newer to reading as it has many of those elements, is relatively fast paced and being young adult won’t be too heavy.
