So basically, I want books that will emotionally destroy me, not necessarily because the theme/plot is sad but because I’ll love the characters and story and just feel their emotions too.
I mostly read fantasy so I would like recommendations to stick to that, and just to put examples of what I mean in the type of books I’m looking for:
Spoilers ahead for the following books: Onyx Storm, Shades of Magic trilogy, the Life of Addie LaRue, Under the whispering door, Mistborn era1
Onyx Storm destroyed me because of how attached I’m to the MMC because of what he goes through even if the story isn’t inherently sad, same thing for Kell in the second book of shades of magic.
The ending of Addie LaRue wrecked me as did the ending of UWD.
The last book of Mistborn absolutely destroyed me with the characters’ ends and everything they went through too!
This are some of the most recent books I’ve read that have truly left me with an ache whenever I’ve read them or think about them so I’m looking for similar stories!
