This kid and his best friend are the nerdy kids. (Freshman in high school) The main character is very bright, in AP classes etc and his best friend is just that his best friend. Not a nerd, not a sports player, etc just his best friend.
Together they decide that they are no longer going to be nerds. They are going to get chicks. So they come up with this brilliant plan of starting a punk rock band and playing at the talent show.
I didn’t include any spoilers. It is a hilarious book, easy to read. Based on the authors life. I have personally read the book twice and just got a copy for my birthday so I will read it a third time.
It is amazing. 10/10 recommend for anyone trying to get into reading. For your teenage son etc.
