Hi Im trying to get into non fiction books and am particularly interested in learning about American history and presidents.
What are your favorite books? I feel like I don’t know where to start.
I don’t really have a specific period of history I’m interested in so any suggestions are appreciated!

The Personal Memoirs of Ulysses S Grant is considered the gold standard of US Presidential autobiographies.
Also anything by Doris Kearns Goodwin, David McCullough, and Ron Chernow.
Manhunt: The 12 day search for Lincoln’s killer
Doris Kearns Goodwin wrote two of my favorites: Team of Rivals (about Lincoln and his genius for surrounding himself with people with opposing points of view-Obama listed this as one of his favorites) and No Ordinary Time (FDR and Eleanor and the War on the Homefront). I believe No Ordinary Time won the Pulitzer.
Another deserving Pulitzer went to Edmund Morris for The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, which covers Teddy‘s life up until stepping into office of the president. He wrote two later volumes, one which covered his life during the presidency, and a third about his life post presidency. All three are well regarded and eminently readable.
