I’ve been reading a lot of horror and thriller books lately, can someone recommend a good short book that’ll give me a break. Something fun or at the very least something a little more grounded.
The only thing I don’t want is anything fantasy or science fiction. I can do a romance if there’s more going on then just the romance.

This book isn’t necessarily “fun” but it is one of the most emotional books I’ve ever read with guaranteed tears on the final page. It’s a short and easy read: Flowers for Algernon.
When you say no fantasy, do you mean anything non realistic or just the typical orcs, elves, swords, magic, etc?
If it’s just the latter you want to avoid, I’d suggest Dallergut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee. It’s about a shop that sells dreams to sleeping people every night and the artists who make the dreams. I read it after reading a lot of heavy stuff and found it to be a nice change of pace. There’s a sequel, too. I have it, but I haven’t read it yet.
What You Are Looking For Is In The Library by Michiko Aoyama is another light one I read quite recently. It’s interconnected short stories about people at a crossroads in life and a librarian with the ability to recommend the perfect book to help them move forward.
