My 11yo daughter is interested in reading books that make her look smart (not how she would say it but how I perceive it) and I want to suggest some books for her. She has checked out Les Miserables and War and Peace from her school library, but didn't manage to get far into them. She did read and understand Animal Farm, for example. She is a good reader, with a high reading level, but still, she's 11. What classics do you suggest that she can read and feel smart, but not overwhelmed?

Try other classics maybe George Bernard Shaw, william makepeace thackeray, ray Bradbury… Also the books and stories by the fore mention authors should be definitely reread once your daughter grows up, that would definitely have contrasting view points i personally feel, while growing up everything the stories, the heroes and villians are very black and white … The more we grow up we see things in a grayscale …. This might be an interesting pov …..
Lord of the Flies
I recall reading the Outsiders, Hatchet, and Little Women around her age and enjoying them. I’m thinking Pride & Prejudice could also be a contender. It could be fun to watch movie adaptations before/after reading the book and talking about the differences and similarities to engage her mind even more
