Soooo I was a big reader when I was young. Read a lot of things like Hatchet, Call of the Wild, Warrior Cats, Julie of the Wolves stuff like that in elementary school and then got into more dystopian books when I reached middle school. Thanks to my 7th grade English teacher I started reading a looooot. Like 2 books a week almost. It being like 2014/15 lots of things like Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, and things were really popular and I read them all. I got to high school and stopped reading as much and now I'm in my last year of college and still not reading much… last two books I really read were Wicked (before I even knew about the musical lol) and Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I liked those but I've been more distracted lately and it's been harder for me to read. I was also on a medication that made it harder for me to concentrate. The last two weeks I decided to re-read the Selection Series by Keira Cass and had so much fun reading it. Ik there's controversy about it being a stupid book series but I had fun re-reading it because it was just an enjoyable and easy read.

I'm 22f and should probably be far from reading YA books but wondered if anyone had any suggestions on any YA or just easy to read books? I like dystopian, romance, historical, anything really I guess lol. I have a 3 day stay in a hospital for an EEG for seizures and need something to do and just want to get back into books lol.

    EDIT!!

It doesn't have to be YA!

I read Unwind by Neal Shusterman -recommended by this group and really enjoyed it! It was action packed and had some good characters

The Dance of Thieves and Vow of Thieves duology by Mary Pearson are YA fantasy books that I enjoyed as someone who doesn’t really read much YA anymore (also later learned there is a series that takes place before it, but I never read it). YA books I read when I was younger were the Lorien Legacies series and then similar vein to the ones you listed were the Fifth Wave books by Rick Yancey!

    3. A slightly weird YA distopian thing you might enjoy is Molly Zero by Keith Roberts. It’s weird because it’s third-person present tense, and that means it’s difficult to get into for a page or two each time you pick it up, but it’s a good story.
My knowledge of YA stuff mostly stopped before 2000, though.

I haven’t read this one myself, but a couple of my friends have read Red, White and Royal Blue and loved it and rated it highly!

Side note: never be ashamed of what you want to read!! There is nothing you should or shouldn’t read just because of age, the only thing you -should- read are the books you want to read! Plenty of adults read YA (my friends and I being some of them, we’re all 24-30). I’m 23 and I loved the Throne of glass series, the Caraval series and the Once Upon A Broken Heart series! They also qualify as YA:)

I hope you find something you like, and good luck in the hospital!🤍
