Sci Fi books for a couple

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could suggested a sci fi series for my boyfriend and I to read together? I’m typically more of a mystery/thriller/dark romance kinda gal so I don’t actually know of many sci fi books and that seems to be what he’s into. Prefer if it’s an easy read – I’m just getting him into reading so something thats easy to get into is preferred.

We have read the red rising series and he really enjoyed it (especially the first three books) and he quite enjoyed sunrise of the reaping. He doesn’t want to read dune, lord of the rings, or Star Wars tho as he doesn’t “want to wreck the movies for himself.”
