(tl;dr at the end btw)
I'm not big on book reading, but I find myself increasingly desperate for a story that has the same feeling as "No Home/Homeless", written and illustrated by Wanan.
No Home is a korean comic about two highschool boys, both without a "home" due to their family situations.
"Home" and "Family" is a running theme throughout the comic, with each new character being introduced usually having some sort of issue in their home life that leads them to meet and befriend the main cast.
Throughout the story, the two main characters are constantly getting into fights, their personalities clashing immensely. Overtime, they start to understand eachother and we, the readers, also start to get the full story of their personality and lives.
Their stories, lives, and personalities struck me immensely, like I could identify myself with each character one way or another.
It was especially compelling how they dove into how the way you were raised affected you, each character's personality and attitudes connecting so clearly with their home lives.
Their struggles were so relatable to me, especially how they cover themes of abuse and toxic family dynamics.
!! TL;DR HERE !!
All in all, what I'm looking for is a book with a similar vibe, in that we get characters that are extremely believable, human, and relatable. You're able to peer into their past and see how it affects their present-self.
Secondly, and just as important as the first point, is that we get to see the characters grow together, and find a "home" or "family" in eachother after immense amounts of conflict and strife, where they begin to understand one another.
Essentially, traumatized enemies -> frenemies -> reluctant friends
+++ points for female leads and characters
(Romance appreciated, so long as it truly lives to the spirit of the past mentioned points. I've read so many half-assed relationships in romance it's sort of broken my hope in the genre, but that's only concerning manhwa.)
