The title, basically. I adore Tartt’s prose and her humour, but when you look for books similar to ASH all that comes up is poorly written ‘dark academia’ nonsense.
So regardless (a little bit) of the actual themes of the book, do you guys know any writers with similar writing styles?

Okay, this is a long shot, but what popped into my head is Dorothy Dunnett’s Lymond Chronicles, a historical fiction series set in the late middle ages/ early Renaissance. Yes, Dunnett is a wonderful writer, and yes, she can be very funny, but I think I made the association because both writers are so darned smart.
As a student of classical languages, I had to work hard to keep up with Donna Tartt’s Latin. As a graduate student with a concentration in medieval literature, I was shown up even more badly by Dorothy Dunnett, whose erudition in half-a-dozen dead languages left me with my tongue trailing in the dust.
Good luck on your reading journey!
