I've read a series of pretty dense and heavy lit fic books recently and I need a bit of a palate cleanser. Looking for suggestions on books that kinda fall under the general suspense umbrella, so any good thriller, mystery or action-adventure type stuff.

Some books in this genre that I've loved are The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth, Without Remorse by Tom Clancy, In the Woods by Tana French, anything by Gillian Flynn, Agatha Christie's mysteries, the Jack Reacher books etc.

    What else would you recommend?

What Reacher books have you read? Maybe I could recommend what to read next?

I also liked Fatherland by Richard Harris and Conclave, also by Harris. Conclave just got made into a movie that was nominated for Best Picture – just sayin’

You might take a look at The Lioness by Chris Bohjalian. I thought it was good for what it is (general suspense).

you’re looking for that tightrope tension—smart pacing, sharp stakes, and zero drag

here’s a lineup to hit all sides of the suspense triangle (thriller / mystery / action):

      * **The Chain – Adrian McKinty** your kid is kidnapped—and to get them back, *you have to kidnap someone else’s* fast, brutal premise, relentless pacing
      * **The Girl with a Clock for a Heart – Peter Swanson** college ex shows up, people start dying—paranoia thriller done right
      * **I Am Pilgrim – Terry Hayes** spy thriller meets forensic murder mystery—chunky but addictive
      * **The Kind Worth Killing – Peter Swanson** strangers on a plane… and one of them wants to plan a murder twisty as hell, Flynn-style energy
      * **The Dry – Jane Harper** murder in a drought-stricken Aussie town—moody, atmospheric, and quietly gripping
      * **Razorblade Tears – S.A. Cosby** two ex-cons team up to avenge their murdered sons action + emotion + grit—Clancy meets grit lit
      * **Before I Go to Sleep – S.J. Watson** woman wakes up every day with no memory—husband says one thing, her diary says another

      you’ll fly through these
and they’ll keep your pulse *just* high enough

Michael Connelly, either the Harry Bosch series or my personal favorite, The Poet.

    6. If you did In the Woods, why not the rest of the Dublin Murder Squad books? The first one and second one I actually found the least thrilling/exciting but i remember loving the others!

For new authors I would go for the Millenium Series – at least the first 3 by Steig Larrson. Starts with the a girl with the dragon tattoo. Real solid trilogy followed by more books with different authors (not as good).

    7. The Good Girl by Mary Kubica

      The Inmate by Freida McFadden

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

      Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea

The Girl in the Ice by Robert Bryndza

The Girl in the Mirror by Rose Carlyle

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

The Quiet Tenant by Clémence Michalon

Choose Me by Tess Gerritsen by Gary Braver

The Housemaid Series by Freida McFadden
