Currently in the groove of war books. Last four were Slaughterhouse 5, With the Old Breed,The Storm of Steel and Generals Die in Bed.
I love the dark whimsy of Slaughterhouse 5, the contrast of The Storm of Steel and Generals die in bed read back to back is awesome. The honest brutality is a common theme with all of these, and is certainly something I'm drawn to.
Keen for suggestions of similar reads. I'm open to different interpretations/approaches to war memoirs, but being based in historical facts/events helps a lot. Even Slaughterhouse 5 with its time travel and aliens was for me an insight into the corruption of a soldier's mind, rather than fantasy.
Any and all help appreciated. Cheers

I’ve almost finished Precipice by Robert Harris which is set during WWI. Based on fact, Prime minister Herbert Asquith is having an affair with a socialite, sending her letters that reveal secrets and military stratagy. Might that be the right sort of thing?
